Fridge and pantry

Film the fridge.
Know what to
cook and buy.

No typing groceries into an app. Open the fridge and the pantry, pan for half a minute, and Simple Capture lists what's there, notices what's running low or going off, and answers "what can I make tonight?" out loud.

How to do it

One video, about a minute of waiting, and the page is ready.

  1. Pan shelf by shelf

Open the fridge and go top to bottom, then the door, the crisper and the pantry.

  2. It lists what's there

Items go into an inventory, and any dates and labels in view are copied out.

  3. Ask out loud

Hold the red button: "what should I cook tonight?" or "what's missing for tacos?"

  4. Take the list to the store

Ask for a shopping list. On the way round, film the aisle and it reads the shelf prices too.

Tips

  • Film right before you shop, so the list is current.
  • Turn jars so the labels face the camera.
  • Say what you plan to cook this week and the list fills in the gaps.

Where it stops

  • It sees what's in view. The back of a crowded shelf may be missed.
  • It reads dates that are printed and visible. It doesn't send expiry reminders.
  • It isn't a diet or nutrition app and won't give medical advice.
